Winter Is Coming... Is Your Roof Ready?
Article Sponsored By Executive Partner: SIC Midwest
Winter in Missouri is always a challenge. Who knows what to expect? Are we going to get a sprinkle of snow or 3 feet of snow? 1 ice storm or 10? 60-degree December days or 20- degrees? Then right after our last snow storm, we enter tornado, hail and storm season of early spring. These seasons can really put strain on a damaged or poorly maintained roof. Making sure your roof is prepared now can prevent the need to do major repairs or even roof replacement come spring.
How to get your roof ready:
Clean your roof:
• Remove all debris and vegetation from the roof
• Clean your drains – clogged drains lead to ponding water which puts stress on the roof
• Clean your gutters
Repair small areas of damage:
• Look for holes/gaps in the roof around all equipment (such as HVAC units)
• Repair tears and holes in the membrane – if your roof is under warranty, contact the manufacturer or you could void your warranty
Reach out to your trusted roofing company for:
• Drone scan to identify any wet areas
• Roof assessment to identify any weak points/concerning areas
• Assess what needs addressed immediately & what can wait
Addressing issues on your roof now, while the problem is still small, can prevent major water leaks into offices and classrooms, minimize overall roof damage and keep costs down when it comes time to replace the roof. The more saturation you have on your roof, the more expensive it becomes to fix it. Investing the time and money now could save you in the future.
