Member Spotlight: Mark Janiesch

Mark Janiesch is currently the Chief Operating Officer for the Northwest R-I School District and will become the Chief Financial Officer for Lindbergh on July 1, 2026. He excels in an environment full of surprises, where each day presents new challenges. "My favorite part of the job is not knowing what might come up next," Mark explains. "This unpredictability keeps the role exciting, even with the pressures that come with it."

Let's Get to Know Mark:

What is the most challenging thing about your job? Or something you wish people knew about your job.

One notable challenge in this position is the expectation to tackle "other duties as assigned." Mark chuckles, recalling moments spent moving sandbags and weeding flower beds to prepare schools for students. "You never know what might just come up!" Mark says, highlighting the diverse responsibilities linked to ensuring everything runs smoothly.

Can you share an achievement that makes you proud?

In 2024, Mark was part of the effort to prepare Valley Middle School for the start of the school year following the devastating July flooding. Everyone worked tirelessly with our restoration company and other vendors to ensure that Valley Middle School was ready on time, despite a very tight schedule.

What are three things you like to do in your spare time?

Outside of work, Mark enjoys hands-on projects around their home, relaxing by the pool during summer, and visiting car shows in the fall.

What advice can you offer for new school finance employees?

Mark emphasizes the need for flexibility: "Always be ready for things to evolve and change. As soon as you get comfortable with something, it most likely will not be the same for next year!"

As an advocate for the MoASBO community, Mark appreciates the opportunity to network and collaborate with other professionals across the state. They especially look forward to the Spring Conference in April, which has become his favorite MoASBO event.
