Purpose Statement
The Springfield, Missouri Public School District is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Director III, Business Services. This position will begin July 1, 2020 or earlier, based upon availability.

The Springfield School District is Missouri’s largest public school district and has built a reputation of academic excellence based on the outstanding performance of our students and schools. About 25,000 students attend 36 elementary schools, an intermediate school, 9 middle schools, 5 high schools, and a variety of alternative education and choice programs.

This position is responsible for supervising the preparation and submission of all school system financial reports and budgets to the Deputy Superintendent-Operations; and providing leadership for improving fiscal responsibilities, budget preparation, and financial supervision to the department through cross-departmental collaborations. The Director of Business Services ensures that Federal and State laws and procedures are followed and supported by using best accounting practices and budgetary guidelines. Assignments require analytical thinking and extensive independent judgement. Performs advanced level administrative financial work under executive level direction. Directs and supervises the work of the Business Services team including Debt Management, Investments, Financial Reporting, Budget, Accounts Payable, Cash Receipting, Fixed Assets, Project Accounting, Payroll, Purchasing Card Administration, Audit, Grant Financial Management, Bond Compliance, and supporting the work of school leaders and operations teams.

Essential Job Functions
 Develops long-range and short-term objectives while leading and developing the Business Services team.
 Ensures the uniform, and consistent recording and reporting of all fiscal transactions in accordance with accepted standards as prescribed by federal and state laws, accounting principles, and regulations prescribed by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Oversees the preparation of various financial statements and their dissemination.  Formulates and recommends changes and additions to policies and procedures relating to functional activities.
 Directs the administration of all functions relating to the operations including cash management, investments, accounts payable, financial reporting and transactions, payroll, fixed assets, grant management, purchasing card program, financial reporting, and audit activities.
 Ensures internal controls are established, maintained and documented in compliance with organizational directives.
