Hazelwood School District is Hiring a Social Science Curriculum Coordinator

 

JOB SUMMARY:

The Social Studies Curriculum Coordinator will perform duties to plan, coordinate and assist the professional staff members toward the development of a curriculum and an instructional program which will maximize the learning of each student in the Hazelwood School District.

 

 DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES:

  1. Develop a curriculum with stakeholder input, monitor its implementation, and train certified staff on its implementation.

        Examples of Work Performed:

  • Organize and guide curriculum committees composed of staff members to stimulate curriculum development.
  • Review curriculum for completeness and alignment to state standards and requirements and make revisions, as needed.
  • Create supporting curriculum instructional resources and documents.
  • Teach sample lessons on a regular basis in district classrooms to model and explain effective instructional techniques.
  • Analyze and share data each cycle it is collected to identify areas of strength and opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaboratively and proactively plan with assistant superintendents, principals, instructional coaches, and instructional specialists to monitor the implementation of curriculum and create specific strategies to improve instruction and learning.
  • Assist administrators, instructional coaches, and teachers in establishing support priorities.
  • Walkthroughs with building administrators and instructional coaches to focus on curriculum implementation.
  • Provide administrators with a summary or pacing analysis for the curricular objectives in the current instructional unit (i.e. what should be taught and assessed vs. what teachers are actually teaching and assessing)
  • Work with school administrators, instructional coaches, and instructional specialists to support staff with curriculum implementation with fidelity.
  • Continue to update knowledge about current research and practices in curriculum and staff development by attending meetings, workshops and conventions.
  • Aid in the selection of teachers, when applicable.
  • Assist in inventory, ordering, transferring, and distributing of materials for classroom instruction.
  • Plan for the development and evaluation of innovative and pilot programs using new materials, techniques, and/or organizational procedures to ensure that goals of the curriculum are met.
  1. Train administrators, instructional coaches, librarians, reading specialists, and teachers on curriculum and instruction.

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Analyze building and district student achievement data and implementation data to guide the development of training for administrators, instructional coaches, and teachers.
  • Provide support in co-leading literacy data analysis with administrators, instructional coaches, and teachers to create strategy and skill embedding plans.
  • Analyze school and grade level data for declines, or lower than anticipated growth, for follow-up root cause analysis.
  • Assist administrators, instructional coaches, and teachers in establishing immediate curriculum instructional needs as indicated by qualitative and/or quantitative feedback.
  • Provide Social Studies professional development sessions for district trainings and site trainings.
  • Create training modules.
  • Meet with administrators, instructional coaches, and teachers to facilitate professional learning, student work analysis, and reflective instruction.
  • Deliver professional development and create instructional tools to assist teachers in implementing effective strategies or reinforce specific skills.
  • Co-facilitate Library Media Specialist and Reading Specialist meetings and professional development planning.
  • Organize and conduct staff development workshops.
  • Set up and provide all materials needed for workshops and meetings organized by the coordinator.
  • Actively participate in mentoring of new teachers.
  • Serve in a consultative capacity to the District Professional Development Committee (DPDC) and individual school PDC committees.

 

  1. Assist in promoting the District and its programs.

        Examples of Work Performed:

  • Represent the District on local, state and national committees.
  • Participate in professional organizations.
  • Plan, coordinate, and/or deliver presentations for the Improvement of Instruction program.
  • Organize committees, which involve patrons of the District in the evaluation of curriculum, instructional resources, media and technology.
  • Write grants and explore alternative sources of funding.
  • Positively and objectively represent and interpret curricular area’s program to the school board members, administrators, teachers, students, and patrons of the school district.
  • Actively participate in school improvement planning meetings, committee meetings, assessment meetings, and professional development meetings with and/or for administrators, instructional coaches, instructional specialists, the curriculum department (improvement of instruction), and/or the instructional team.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:  Master’s degree in curriculum and instruction/Current teaching certificate issued by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education/reading certification preferred

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:  Broad knowledge of Social Studies curriculum and discipline (including reading, writing, language, speaking, and listening); Extensive knowledge of Missouri Learning Standards; Knowledge of various instructional delivery models; Knowledge of research-based and evidence-based instructional strategies

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Requires a minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching experience in Social Science; Requires evidence of improving student achievement in Social Science; Instructional coaching or team leader experience and curriculum writing experience preferred

  • Must demonstrate the ability to work effectively with other people in the leadership and coordination of activities involved with curriculum development and instructional programs
  • Must be self-directed, highly motivated, and able to work independently

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, and to lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required included close vision, distance vision, the ability to adjust and focus, and depth perception. Specific hearing abilities required include normal conversation, phone conversation, and isolating voices in multiple conversations.   

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT / CONDITIONS:

Primarily inside working conditions. Travel between buildings required.

REQUIRED PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: None

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Assigned to a 12-month administrator contract; administrator compensation and benefits as provided by the Board of Education.

 

Salary Placement: Minimum and maximum salary is indicative only of initial placement on the salary schedule. Salary based on the 2018-19 Administrator salary schedule plus $2,000.00 stipend for a doctorate degree.
