Retired Army Colonel Provides Leadership Lessons from Churchill

School business leaders from across the state were well-represented at MoASBO’s Leadership Institute, which was held at Westminster College in Fulton, Group MO from Feb. 4-5. This interactive workshop provided skills current and future school leaders need to succeed. The topics covered were essential to developing a deep understanding of the leadership role of a successful administrator, CFO, director or manager.

This is the first year MoASBO has partnered with Dr. Jeffrey McCausland, founder and CEO of Diamond6, to facilitate this type of interactive workshop. Participants focused on Winston Churchill and his strategic leadership; examining current and future situations with critical thinking;the power of positivity; and work/life harmony.

“Since 2000, Dr.McCausland has conducted numerous executive leadership development workshops and this type of event aligns with our Leadership Development Program,” said MoASBO Executive Director Kim Cranston. “Our goal is to provide the best professional development to our members who often wear many hats in their respective school districts.”

Nearly 40 MoASBO members engaged in conversation that challenged their current assumptions and perspective. “The most critical factor for this workshop was having engaged participants who strive to do their best and they did. These leaders are making their teachers, students and community a better place,” said Dr. McCausland.

Dr. McCausland, a retired U.S. Army Colonel, served in a variety of command and staff positions both in the United States and Europe during the Kosovo crisis and Operations Desert Shield and Storm. He holds a degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
