MoASBO is the leading learning organization for School Finance in Missouri. We are excited to announce the release of a three-part training video series for members. Whether you’re just starting out in school finance or need a refresher, this series is for you. We know this information might be challenging, that is why each video was designed with you in mind.
MoASBO Overview on Property Tax - Mentoring Video Part 1
In this video, we share the importance of property tax revenue and how it serves as a major source for public education.
MoASBO Calculating Property Tax Revenue - Mentoring Video Part 2
In this video, we review primary funds and resulting levies. For school districts, two levies may be calculated and set: an operating levy and a debt service levy. The operating levy provides local funds for the daily operation of the district, like salary and benefits for staff, services, and supplies. The debt service levy is established when voters have separately approved a general obligation bond for reasons such as renovating schools or building a new school building and is strictly used for repayment of the principal, interest, and fees of that debt. Levies must be set to four decimal places.
MoASBO Setting the Tax Levy Part 3
In this video, MoASBO provides an overview of general information relative to setting the tax levy. In addition, we utilizes excerpts and visuals from the Setting the Tax Levy workshop.
